NEW: The Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) SimpleFile is a fast, free, and secure way for eligible individuals to file their taxes.
File by phone, paper and online using information the CRA already has on record. You can often file in minutes with no calculations or forms.
SimpleFile is offered to eligible people with lower incomes and simple tax situations. Check your CRA account or mail in early March to see if you’re invited to use the service. If you didn’t receive an invite, you may still be eligible to file online if you have a lower income and simple tax situation.
SimpleFile services open on March 9, 2026.
Before using a tax clinic or other filing options, you’re encouraged to check your SimpleFile eligibility – it’s the easiest way to file and access tax credits and benefits that you may be eligible for.

If you received social assistance payments during the previous year, you will receive a T5 tax slip in the mail by the end of February. For details, see: Tax Slips for People Who Receive Ontario Works.
Please note: Automated tax filing will launch in 2027. The Government of Canada has announced that the CRA will automatically file tax returns for eligible lower income individuals starting in 2027.
