New construction or home renovations could be reasons to stop or restart waste collection services. You can opt out temporarily while renovating, demolishing a house or travelling (six months or more).
If you do not opt out, you will continue to be charged regardless of whether or not waste was set out for collection.
What to Know Before You Opt In/Out
- During your absence, the City will remove your bins. Place your bins where they are visible and accessible for City staff to collect. Once you are ready to resume service, you will need to opt back in.
- When moving, bins remain property of the City and must remain at the property. You do not need to opt out when moving.
- If you stop your garbage collection, you will not receive the accompanying free services of Green Bin organics, household hazardous waste, electronic waste and oversized/metal items pick up.
- Renovation waste is not collected at curb. This includes drywall, doors, lumber, counters, vanities, kitchen cabinets, roof shingles and tiles. Take these items to a Drop-Off Depot. Fees will apply.
- To opt out of recycling, contact Circular Materials.
